9 Skilled Candidates Who Understand The Issues And Have The Experience To Fix Them!

The WCCC consists of Whistler citizens who came together because there are problems with the RMOW. We are concerned with the lack of controls, wild spending and increasing taxes. This is NOT a secret society or special interest group and there are NO hidden agendas. The names of our executive group have been posted in the paper, on our website and most recently on the Whistler Elections Facebook page.

We interviewed almost all of the candidates and we believe the nine we are supporting have the most depth, experience and skills needed to address the challenges this community faces. Many of you receiving this newsletter have been WCCC supporters since the beginning. This is your opportunity to make a difference and help get this community back on track. We urge you to support Nancy Wilhelm-Morden for Mayor and select four to six council candidates that you are comfortable with from the eight listed below. In the coming weeks speak with your friends & colleagues and try to gain support for those candidates you are planning to vote for. If we all work together we can be successful in electing a new and effective Mayor and Council.

Thank you for your continued support!

MAYOR

Wilhelm-Morden, Nancy - 38 Years in Whistler. Small business owner for 25 years,  practicing lawyer, 4 term councilor.
“Whistler’s future is bright but we need to solve a few problems first – fiscal responsibility, value for money, provision of core services, conducting business in Whistler, economic diversification through education and cultural planning, retaining our families, transit, pay parking to name a few. I have the skills to help address these issues. If elected I will set a 0% increase in property taxes in 2012, impose a zero-based budgeting process and set pay parking for day lot one only – the rest of the parking lots will remain free.”

COUNCIL

Anderson, Steve - 37 Years in Whistler. Home owner since 1984. Owner/operator of a tourism business. Mountain Guide Whistler Heli-skiing.

“If elected I hope to influence the decision making at RMOW to priorities offering continued high quality core services to residents and guests alike. Sticking to delivery of these services would result in significant cost savings to the annual budget, which must be balanced, with the goal of reducing to the 2007 spending threshold. Zero tax increases, zero wage increases.”

Faulkner, Jayson - 34 Years in Whistler. Bachelor of Business Administration, owner of Whistler businesses for 20 years, previously VP Sales/Marketing Arcteryx.

“The RMOW is a complex institution, experience, skills and understanding are key. The core concern is the unsustainable fiscal situation. The other issues - pay parking, transit, RMOW direction and management, Whistler 2020 and OCP are in many ways affected by it.  When financial commitments can’t be met the options on many other programs become very limited. Community needs overcome wants which creates a very different community agenda. Living within our means is fundamental to build a community with the strengths, principles and vision we all want.”

Grills, John - 28 Years in Whistler. Active husband, father, restaurateur, businessman, volunteer, life sports.

“The RMOW should supply and manage core services. It should assist the community and businesses to achieve their goals. It is clear there is downward pressure on revenues and to keep the budget in line we must control costs. This community is not nearly big enough to financially support all that we have; we must have a vibrant business sector. I have spent over thirty years owning, managing, and renovating food and beverage operations throughout the village. I feel the lessons and skills I have learned can be put to good use as a Whistler Councillor.”

Jackson, Duane - 20 Years in Whistler. Married, 3 children. Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Real Estate Development. Previous WHA and current WDC Board Member. Designer, Builder, Stonebridge Partner.

“We need fiscally responsible leadership to restore economic stability and explore initiatives to leverage our assets and partnerships for continued economic, cultural and social success. Our priorities should reflect the competitive new world economy and support our citizens, businesses and taxpayers in a quest to restore confidence and the adventurous spirit that built our great community.”

Janyk, Andrée - 16 Years in Whistler. Committed to the Community.

“I have seen Whistler from 1964 before the lifts to now. I want to help lead the community to be more financially stable - giving us all a future here. It is important to work as a team, to build an economic vision that includes key areas of business - tourism, cultural events and recreation.”

Jenner, Allan - McGill Graduate. Worked for 23 years in banking in Montreal, New York and Toronto with Citicorp as Sr. Vice President. Chief Operating Officer for Morguard Bank in Vancouver. Served on the Board of Directors of oil and gas, retail, cable TV, trucking and hi-tech companies. Owned and operated several retail stores in Whistler and Harrison Hot Springs for 13 years. Presently Realtor with Whistler Real Estate. Served on Board of Directors of Tourism Whistler, Chamber of Commerce, Pemberton Golf Club and member of Whistler’s Advisory Planning Committee.

McCarthy, Roger - 20 Years in Whistler. Property owner since 1974. 20 Additional years of executive experience working in senior resort management positions, in more than a dozen resorts on two continents. Experience in controlling organizational and budget priorities for resort success. Owner of international ski resort consulting company. “Affordability cannot be achieved without first putting our municipal house in order. Sustainability will not be reached without the solid foundation of a strong economy. We need to work together through responsible leadership to restore economic vibrancy to our community and to provide the citizens and taxpayers of Whistler the opportunity to succeed.”

Rea, Kevin - 27 Years in Whistler. Married with one son. 25 Years of corporate business management experience, focused on asset management and security.
“Fiscally responsible, hard-working and committed to resolving the issues that Whistler is currently facing. I operate with a high level of honesty and integrity, open mindedness and transparency. I employ a balanced and creative approach to problem solving and I’m customer driven and socially and environmentally aware.”
