Nathalie Morgan’s ‘Fleeting’ is featured in the In Your Dreams exhibit at Millennium Place.

Dreams are a subject that interests most everyone.

We all supposedly dream every night, and usually try to derive wisdom or make some sense of those we are actually able to recall upon waking.

Although, the only wisdom I’ve been able to glean from this one dream where I was gardening while dressed as a rodeo clown is not to eat pepperoni pizza with ranch dressing right before bed.

But you can discover sublime and surreal images and artwork inspired by dreams on Thursday (Nov. 17) at Millennium Place during the Whistler Arts Council’s (WAC) In Your Dreams Art Night. Featuring works by 20 local artists, the In Your Dreams exhibit encouraged an “anything goes” approach to the art, with an eye toward evoking “a feeling of being caught inside a surrealist dream world.”

Some of the interactive installations at the event include Photo Experiment — a colouring-book style display where audience members themselves are the colour — and a model with piercings in her back designed by the artist to emulate the appearance of lace on the back of a corset. The event also features walking works of art, music courtesy of DJ and local artist Chili Thom, plus food and tons of prizes.

The In Your Dreams Art Night takes place Thursday (Nov. 17) at Millennium Place from 7 to 11 p.m. Admission is by donation and includes a complimentary beverage.

The In Your Dreams surrealist exhibit will be on display until Dec. 15. For more info, go to artswhistler.com.
