Local company wins building award

A Whistler-based building and project management company, Avant Contractors, was honoured with an award of excellence from the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) last week.

Avant won the BuiltGreen Single-Family Builder of the Year award at an event in Coquitlam on Nov. 2, and Bob Tetreault, the company’s director and founder, was on hand to accept the award.

“It is an honour to be recognized for our continued efforts to bring green values and awareness to the forefront of mainstream construction methods,” Tetreault wrote in an email to The Question. “This award means a great deal to the whole Avant team.”

Tetreault said the award is not based on any single project, but is achieved by the company that registers the most projects within the category.

Avant has demonstrated a commitment to resource-efficient and environmentally friendly construction in Whistler as part of the BuiltGreen standard, Tetreault added.

“We strive to be the best we can be for our clients. This award brings with it acknowledgement in our abilities and recognition from our peers,” he said.

Avant Contractors got its start in 2002 and has since worked on projects big and small in the Sea to Sky. The company has been one of more than 700 GVHBA members since 2009.

"The awards honour association members for their exceptional level of volunteer commitment and dedication to enhancing the professionalism of the homebuilding and renovation industries in the Greater Vancouver area," said GVHBA president Peter Simpson.
