Rates are steady, with a small drop in the 5 year fixed mortgage rates.  We still have this anomaly whereby the longer term rates are less than the short term rates.  However the pundits are predicting a drop in the bank prime rate which should put the rates back in the historical perspective.

Question

I am curious regarding home heating costs.

Let me use the situation, of three identical homes heating with the same central systems.

1st home. The thermostat is left on all the time at 70 F
2nd home. The thermostat is left on all the time at 72 F
3rd home. During the day the thermostat is left at 68 F, and during the rest of the time left at 70 F or 72 F.
