International Eyes on BC
|
As the B.C. economy continues to grow, the eyes of international investors are on B.C. and the Greater Vancouver area. More than 120 commercial REALTORS® were in Vancouver attending the International Eyes on BC – Working with Global Clients conference April 24, 2006 to find out what they need to know when dealing with international clients. Guest speakers at a Commercial Speakers Forum, sponsored by NAI Commercial and Franz Environmental Inc. and the CCIM Institute included:
- David Podmore, president & CEO of Concert Properties spoke about 2010 and beyond;
- Ronda Howard, senior planner, City of Vancouver, spoke about growth and development in Vancouver, including new land use and transportation plans;
- Edward L. Wilson, partner, Lawson Lundell, spoke on legal issues to investing in B.C.
- David Rickards, partner, Grant Thornton, LLP, spoke on accounting and tax issues in B.C.
The conference message had only good news for REALTORS®, with speakers agreeing: opportunities arising from the 2010 Olympics will be comparable to Expo ’86. There will be an increase in international buyers purchasing homes and leasing commercial space in downtown Vancouver. Conference activities included CCIM partners attending a bus tour of commercial properties in the downtown, Yaletown, Chinatown, southeast False Creek and Granville Island areas.
